This is a special digital racing ignition made by Polini. Different to the common inner rotor ignitions on the market, this one is a classic battery ignition system, i.e. the energy is not produced by a rotor/stator combination, but comes from the battery. This gets rid of stator and rotor, so the only ignition components left on the engine is the pick-up incl. the module. This arrangement minimises rotating mass at the crankshaft. Furthermore, there is no engine power lost to generating the electric energy.
The digital engine control unit can be freely mapped via a PC, using the USB connection cable and the software included in the delivery. 
The electricity consumption is said to be relatively low; a light 12V lithium ion battery should be enough to get you easily through several DSSC races or 30 minutes on the racing circuit.
